The Scenic Rim is home to many equine businesses, equestrian clubs and horse owners. As a horse owner myself, I appreciate, understand and value the importance of horses in the Scenic Rim.

I found tandem hang gliding and paragliding to be thrilling experiences. The Scenic Rim with its spectacular scenery and expert operators is well placed to tap into the growing market for adventure tourism.

Many families, including my own, chose to live in our region because its natural beauty, open spaces and sense of community offer a special quality of life that will disappear if not actively recognised and protected.

The war memorials scattered throughout the Scenic Rim are a reminder that many people and their families have sacrificed their lives, health and happiness to protect our country. Both my parents served in the military in World War II. My husband's uncle was an original ANZAC, he was wounded in Gallipoli and later killed in the battle of the Somme at the tragically early age of 21.

The Scenic Rim contains significant biodiversity including a wide range of ecosystems and rare and endangered species. The region is internationally recognised with Mount Barney and Lamington Plateau listed as World Heritage areas. A councillor with an appreciation, understanding and knowledge of the local environment can contribute to SRRC's strategy to ensure the future preservation of the Scenic Rim's natural heritage.

We owe a lot to our emergency services volunteers and they always appreciate support from their community.

Abseiling in beautiful Binna Burra is one of the many exciting outdoor activities in the Scenic Rim. The Scenic Rim is unique. Its natural beauty, rural atmosphere, art galleries, restaurants, wineries, tourism facilities and friendly communities provide residents and visitors with an amazing array of outdoor, cultural and recreational experiences.

Clean Up Australia was started by yachtsman Ian Kiernan in 1989 in attempt to clean up rubbish around Sydney Harbour, it has now expanded nationally and globally. I have been a frequent Clean Up volunteer and 2011 and 2012 Co-ordinator of Tamborine Mountain Clean Up site, it is rewarding to be a part of Australia's largest community based environmental event.

Million Paws Walk is a great fund raiser for the RSPCA. Like many people and animals, my family always has a wonderful day at North Tamborine Million Paws Walk.
